While Jordan was in Barcelona this past week, we went to see a Gaudí creation that I haven't visited before... Casa Batlló on Passeig de Gracia!
An audio guide was included in the entrance fee, so we got to hear a little bit about the architecture as we walked from the ground floor to the roof. The audio guide wasn't too great-- mostly because I don't remember much of what it said. So this blog post consists of more pictures than info. I can say, though, that in comparison to all the other Gaudi works I've seen in Barcelona thus far, it is most similar to La Pedrera-- built for a family... and on the same street! The outside resembles bones, the inside is meant to look like you're submerged in water, and the roof looks like a scaly dragon-creature.
Stairwell leading up to the first floor.
The first floor. Apparently the stained glass you see changes color depending which side you're looking from.
Awesome airspace to let light in. He purposely varied the colors of the blue in the tiles so that they are darker higher up. This gives the illusion that the light is spread more evenly (because it's brightest at the top).
The back patio.
Twisty stairwell and ribcage hallway.
The roof! The weird looking statues are chimneys-- very similar to the ones in La Pedrera, except they don't resemble Star Wars troopers quite as much.
Views from the windows.
Strange hologram of Gaudi waving "Goodbye!"
And that was all! The strangest part of the audio guide was that there was a number just for the gift shop where it said you could "find memorable souvenirs for a reasonable price." Yeah right!
I remember seeing the outside of this building when we were in Barcelona but, because we were only there for a few hours, we never went inside. Thanks for showing me what we missed.
